JEAA Autumn Breakfast Meeting

The JEAA autumn breakfast meeting was held at the Kingsman Suites, St Helier, on Wednesday 20 October 2021 and was attended by 22 member agents and 3 guest speakers.

 

JEAA President, Nick Dodsley thanked members for attending and introduced the first speaker -  Marc Burton MBE of Garenne Group, who gave a fascinating insight into the Nightingale Hospital project.

 

Marc talked us through the amazing project from inception to completion, with a time lapse film showing construction during the build. On 8 April 2020 the instruction was given to deliver the hospital with a deadline to be operative on 4 May 2020. This was achieved with 45,000 man hours carried out by 541 staff and 89 companies.

 

Questions followed, notably “If you could pinpoint one day that was especially difficult and stressful, what day would that have been?” to which Marc responded “Finding the site”.

A short break with coffee and pastries followed.

 

Nick introduced the next speakers– Jim Purkiss and Mike Norbury of Islands Insurance.

 

Jim spoke about the importance Business Insurance to cover equipment such as mobile phones and cameras when out and about and of Public & Employers Liability, to cover both consumers and employees in case of negligence claims. He advised business owners to review their businesses and carry out a risk assessment. In addition, Jim spoke of the importance of contents insurance particularly in apartments as for example, a flood or fire in an apartment may not only damage that apartment, but may damage the apartment above, below or alongside.

 

Mike talked about Cyber insurance and stated that “Every 19 seconds, small businesses are hacked” with a potential loss of revenue and loss of reputation. Ransom payments being the most immediate danger to small businesses. For additional information Mike suggested going to the National Cyber Security website.
